Single
day tour
Cerro Castillo is one of the most symbolic mountains
of our region.
Towers of black rock, surrounded by big glaciers
that dominate the little local settlement nestled
in the Rio Ibanez valley. Leaving Coyhaique
we will follow the Carretera Austral south climbing
up into the mountains. It is possible to find
huemul grazing close to the road side as it
is still a relatively quiet and unexploited
area.
When we get to Portezuelo Ibanez (a mountain
pass), it is possible to see Cerro Castillo
with its frozen peaks towering above the other
mountains and spot the wide valley that is partially
covered with ash from the Hudson volcano.
En route we will have a picnic lunch and visit
the archeological site with the cave hand prints
