The
Cerro Castillo range is a major mountain chain
that cuts across the regular north to south
spine of the Andes. During the trip we will
go through extensive forested areas and cross
the glacial morrains of the Penon and Castillo
glaciers.
Crossing a high, moderately difficult pass we
will descend in to the valley on the southern
face of the mountains. After crossing the melt
water streams of the main glaciers we cross
to the high cirque lakes from where we can see
the blue glacial ice and General Carrera lake,in
the distance with the Patagonian steppes beyond.
The wetlands on this route provide a good opportunity
to observe wildfowl
The spectacular beauty of the scenery in this
sector make this trek one of the most famous
in Patagonia.
